Susan Jane Jarvis
(December 23, 1942 – August 25, 2024)
Susan Jane Jarvis, 81, of Bondurant, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 25, 2024, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, surrounded by her family. She was born December 23, 1942, in Oelwein, IA, daughter of Clyde and Fern (Bruil) Cahill. She graduated from Upper Iowa University with a degree in Elementary Education in 1965.
Susan married Joseph Jarvis on July 3, 1965, in Oelwein. She worked as an Elementary School teacher for 25 years while raising two children. She retired in 2004 largely due to her diagnosis with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) years before. She fought this disease until the day she passed with grace and dignity and continued to put her family first each and every day through her battle.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Clinton where she was active with the women’s groups and church activities. She was devoted to reading her Bible every morning as part of her personal spirituality.
Susan loved playing Scrabble, Yahtzee, doing puzzles, and word finds. In her spare time, she loved spending time with her 5 grandkids and watching Wheel of Fortune. She had a passion for many different charities including The Salvation Army, Feed the Children, Angel Tree, St. Jude’s, and the Animal Rescue League. Over the years, she adored her cats Sally, Charlie, Mojo and Smokey and had a deep love for animals in general.
Over the last 3 years Susan was a resident of The Bridges Nursing Home where she was extremely loved and cared for by the nurses and staff. At The Bridges she regularly attended church to continue her journey in her faith. She also loved playing bingo and enjoyed racking up “Bingo Bucks” to get goodies for her grandkids.
Susan is survived by her husband, Joseph Jarvis of Bondurant, her son, Matthew Jarvis of Phoenix, AZ, her daughter, Annie (Brant) Reyerson of Ankeny, her grandchildren Hadyn (23) and Ian (22) Jarvis, and Emmitt (17), Madden (15) and Breck (11) Reyerson.
She was preceded in death by her brother Michael in infancy, and her only sister and best friend, Linda Hickman who passed away just one day prior to her own passing.

Obituary - Linda Louise Cahill
Linda Louise Hickman, 85, of Waterloo, passed away peacefully Saturday, August 24, 2024, at UnityPoint Allen Hospital, surrounded by her family. She was born April 1, 1939, in Oelwein, daughter of Clyde and Fern (Bruil) Cahill. She graduated from Oelwein High School in 1957.
She was an active member of Waterloo First United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and volunteered on many committees over the years. She had a strong faith which she passed on to her children and grandchild.
Linda was an excellent cook. Her greatest joy came from caring for and being with her family. She loved playing Scrabble, Wordle, and Yahtzee. She was up for any board game and her Pictionary drawings are legendary. She was the world's best wife, mom, and Nana. Linda was always positive. In her final days she encouraged her family to keep smiling and to be happy, another example of her always putting her family first.
Linda is survived by her husband, Larry Hickman of Waterloo, her daughter, Pamela Hickman of Waterloo, her son Tom (Mary) Hickman of Topeka, KS, her granddaughter Emma Kate Hickman of Waterloo; and brother-in-law, Joseph Jarvis. Linda's beloved sister, Susan Jarvis died one day after Linda passed.
She was preceded in death by her son Timothy James Hickman, and brother in infancy Michael Cahill.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 PM Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Ave. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 AM Thursday, August 29, 2024 at First United Methodist Church-Waterloo, 614 Randolph St. Burial will be in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery.
