JOHN KING

FAIRVIEW, IDAHO

John Grant King, 84, passed away on July 2, 2012, at the Heritage Home in Preston, Idaho. He was born Oct. 12, 1927, in Lewiston, Utah to LaVere and Leora Wiser King. He grew up with his two brothers, Newel and Norman and three sisters, Thelma, Ramona and Joann. He spent his childhood playing with cousins and neighbors and riding his pinto pony. His first job was delivering newspapers at age ten. By age fifteen, he was running the dry farm in Arbon Valley, which he called his castle, because both brothers were drafted into the Army and his father worked full-time for the Utah Fish & Game. He attended school at North Cache then joined the Merchant Marines at seventeen. He later served in the Army in Japan for eighteen months where he became a Sergeant. Upon returning home, he married Darlene Jepson on April 8, 1949, in the Logan Temple. He then returned to the farm in Arbon Valley. He also worked at Paul's Café, McCune Motors, Ford Motors, V-1 Propane and Hill Field before buying the farm in Fairview. He dairy farmed for fifty years and raised corn, wheat, sugar beets and hay.

Some of his various church callings included ward clerk, young men's, stake missionary and working at the baptistery at the temple, but his favorite calling was stake athletic director. John was an avid sports enthusiast. It was a rare event to not see him at at PHS game. He supported kids and grandkids at dance recitals, band performances, games and plays.

John and Darlene have children: Eloise (Kevin) Ogden; Garth (Anne) King; Darrell (Alice) King all of Fairview; and Chad (Kathleen) King of Farmington, Utah; seventeen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren with two on the way. He is also survived by three sisters, Thelma Woodland of Richmond, Utah; Ramona Bingham of Logan, Utah; Joann (Bruce) Griffin of Ogden, Utah; and by a sister-in-law, Venda King of Lewiston, Utah. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Newel and; Norman King; by a son-in-law, Michael Bronson; a brother-in-law, Reed Woodland and by a sister-in-law, Irene King.

The family would like to express their gratitude for the care and kindness shown by Hospice, The Heritage Home and the VA Hospital in Salt Lake City. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 20, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. in the Fairview Second Ward Chapel with Bishop Lewis Palmer conducting. Friends may call Thursday, July 19th from 6-8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home, 1005 South 800 East, Preston, Idaho, and Friday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church. Obituary - Thelma King Woodland

Thelma King Woodland, 95, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2015, in Lewiston, Utah. She was born September 11, 1919 in North Logan, Utah; the eldest child of LaVere and Leora Wiser King. Thelma was raised in Lewiston, Utah and married Reed Woodland July 20, 1938 in the Logan LDS Temple. It was in Richmond, Utah where they built their home and raised their family. Thelma devoted her life to family, church, and her siblings. She always enjoyed and loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Thelma’s thirst for knowledge was evident throughout her life. She graduated from North Cache High School, LDS Seminary in Richmond, Utah, and the LDS Institute of Religion in Logan, Utah. Thelma had a gift for organization and record keeping. She dedicated countless years to family history/genealogical research, and compiling and publishing a comprehensive history of her ancestry.

Always a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter‐day Saints, Thelma served in a variety of church callings, i.e. Ward Primary counselor and teacher; Stake Primary President and board member; President and teacher of the Ward YWMIA; Ward and Stake Genealogy Committee; counselor, teacher and handicraft leader in the Ward Relief Society; Missionary at the Cache Branch Family History Library in Logan; and a temple worker in the Logan LDS temple. Together with her husband, Reed, she served missions in the San Antonio Texas Mission (1984‐85) and a Stake Service Mission at home.

Thelma found great joy in the community service she rendered. She was a president of Richmond Park School PTA, a 4H Girls Club Leader, Chair of the Richmond Voting District #1 and served as a delegate to the Republican County and State Conventions for several years. Among her interests were reading, compiling photo albums and scrap books, making quilts, and oil painting.

Thelma is survived by her son, Jerry (Judy) Woodland of Richmond, daughter Sharon (Craig) Poole of Chula Vista, CA, eight grandchildren, sixteen great‐grandchildren; sisters, Ramona Bingham, Joan (Bruce) Griffin, sister‐in‐law Venda King, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Reed, parents, and brothers Newel, Norman, and John King.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 10, 2015 at 11:00 AM, at the Richmond LDS Stake Center, 135 W. Main St., Richmond Utah. Friends and family may visit prior to the service on Friday, from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at the stake center. Burial will be in the Richmond City Cemetery.
