Obituary - Joan Bevan

Joan Bevan Hogge, 89, of Riverton, Utah, passed away on April 21, 2025, at Grove Creek Assisted Living Center.

Joan was born on February 18, 1936, in Pocatello, Idaho, to Roscoe and Annis Bevan. After graduating from Twin Falls High School, she moved to Provo, Utah, with her best friend and enrolled at BYU. While she attended classes, Joan especially enjoyed the vibrant social life BYU offered.

During one group date, where everyone exchanged phone numbers, Joan met a young man who would call her night after night for long conversations. She believed it was Rollie Hogge, one of the boys from the group. Yet when they crossed paths on campus, he wouldn’t acknowledge her. After this happened a few times, Joan confronted him. Rollie admitted he loved talking to her on the phone but wasn’t entirely sure she was the same girl he had been speaking with.

Despite the confusion, Joan and Rollie married in 1955 in the Idaho Falls Temple. Their 69-year marriage was rooted in love, respect, and faith. Shortly after their wedding, Rollie left to serve a full-time mission in England, with Joan joining him for the final months. Together, they raised three children in a home full of laughter, love, and devotion.

Joan had a vibrant professional life, working as a realtor, travel agent, and administrator in various industries, but her favorite role was being a mother.
A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Joan served faithfully in many leadership roles, including several Relief Society presidencies. Her faith shaped her life, and her service touched many. She also stood by Rollie during his U.S. Army and Reserve service from 1964 to 1972, moving with him to Fort Benning, GA; Fort Devens, MA; and Two Rock Ranch Station, CA.

Joan loved playing cards, watching movies and TV shows, and spending time with her friends and family. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering loyalty to those she loved.

She is survived by her children, Sue Weeks Ruff (Wesley) and Paul Hogge (Becky); her ten grandchildren, Michael, Jessica, Missy, Natalie, Erin, Joshua, Garrett, Hailey, Katelyn, and Allyssa; her five great grandchildren, Grayson, Sloane, Graham, Sam, and Finn, and her brothers, Michael Bevan (Joan) and Richard Bevan (Pam). She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Rollie, her son David Hogge (Jineena), and her sister Judy Wood.

A celebration of Joan’s life will be held on May 2, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the LDS Chapel located at 1208 West 12400 South, Riverton, Utah. Family and friends are invited to join in honoring her life of love, faith, and service. A viewing will be held prior to the funeral services from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM. Interment will follow the funeral services at Riverton City Cemetery.

Joan’s legacy of kindness, faith, and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to her caregivers, Anna and Adi, for their tireless support and dedication.
